14th Annual Carolina Renaissance Festival and Artisan Marketplace held at the Village of Fairhaven near Kannapolis, NC. The event features pirates and nobles, artisans and knights and hundreds of costumed characters. There are 10 stages for music comedy and dance, and three times a day the knights on their steeds joust in fierce combat.
The 53rd Grandfather Mountain Highland Games and gathering of Scottish Clans took place on the weekend of 12th and 13th of July. First held in 1956, the games are an annual event run during the first full weekend in July. The venue is MacRae Meadows on the slopes of Grandfather Mountain, 2 miles from Linville NC and close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The weekend at Grandfather Mountain has grown to become one of the biggest highland games gatherings in the world with an approximate attendance of 30,000.
About 50 different competitions played out over the weekend, many running concurrently. With all these athletes, musicians, singers, dancers and spectators scattered around in all corners of the venue, there was a constant buzz of excitement, and so much to photograph.
